At the beginning of the month (3 to 6 of September), Göteborg was hosting the North Sea Tall Ships Regatta, an event gathering some of the world’s most awesome ships coming after a week-long race from Blyth (UK).
It was the occasion to go on board, to visit the ships, to meet sailors’ from everywhere, to get worldwide food and of course to participate to a lot of awesome activities .
60 years ago, in 1956, the first Tall Ships Race took place as a one-time event, between Torquay and Lisbon, to say goodbye to the era of the great sailing ships.
Good bye ?
Well due to the success of the event, it became regular!
And for its 60th anniversary, Göteborg is the lucky host (actually for the 5th time after 1968, 1978, 1986 and 1997).
The event was taking place in Frihamnen, where years and years ago, cargos were delivering goods and… bananas !
Well this year, no banana, but DJ, concerts, exhibitions, fireworks, challenges, parades, teater, food market, ships’ visit…
I had the chance to go there with my buddy group taking the ferry from Lilla Bommen to Lindholmen and then walking along the river to Frihamnen (Pictures below). It was the occasion to spend a nice time together, to make them try some French cheese, to try to be selected for a sailing training, visit a Russian pirate ship with Jack Sparrow and Will Turner!
It was also my first time in Frihamnen, and the first time I was walking from Lindholmen in that direction (I use to walk toward Eriksberg). Even if it was more industrial than my usual path, I did enjoy the way to get there. We even saw a swan’s family !
Next year, from the 30th of June to the 3rd of July the tall ship race will be in Halmstad. So if you go there, pay attention. I might be there in my own pirate-bio-lab ship =).
See you there =).
