Thursday, April 18th, the spacious lecture hall Margaretha Huitfelds at the Pedagogen building was full of Göta student union activists. It was one of the very important meetings – the first annual assembly of newly elected Parliament of the union. The agenda was full of very important questions and decisions to be made, such as budget, operations plan for the next year, and elections of Presidium and section chairs and board members for the upcoming year.
Firstly, I would like to proudly say that there are three international students among Parliament who will be working next year. I am sure it’s definitely a big achievement, and I hope that issue related to foreign students and PhD’s at the University of Gothenburg will be on the top-priorities of Göta studentkår.
The meeting was very long, more than 6 hours parliamentarians were working under the important issues. For me, personally, it was unusual to sit at the public and not on the table. As a representative from current Göta Parliament in force I was appointed being a member of Valbredning committee. The main job of the task force was to elaborate and assess applicants for various positions in sections within student union. It was an intensive work to interview more than 60 really driven and engaged people keen in working for quality of education and social life of students at the University. The result of the assessment was recommendations from Valbredning to the newly elected Parliament.
For me personally it was a priceless experience to get to know Swedish recruiting system, and to deeply understand Swedish cultural values with regards to working life.
Upcoming months will be a transition period for elected people, getting to know operational work at the student union. By the way – there are several vacancies left at the student union – and if you feel interested in devote your spare time working for better student life and education – you have 2 weeks to apply. Don’t miss your chance.
