Milano – Prelude

MILANO SALONI 2013

Now it’s time to meet in Milan! And I have been preparing my mindset to be involved in the huge amounts of design events for the following five days. Next week there will be the world’s largest furniture trade fair, which is definitely designers’ annual pilgrimage place. The fair is considered to be a leading venue for the display of new products by designers of furniture, lighting and other home furnishings. Anyone keen on design should not miss it!

I will arrive in Milan on tomorrow afternoon, and will keep reporting on what is happening during the week! As this is my first visit to Milano, I did some research so that I will not get lost in so many events and the crowds.

Now I want to share with you some of the information I have been researching. The fair is divided into two parts: Fiera/I saloni and Fuori Salone. For me, the most exciting part in Fiera/I saloni ( in the area of Rho) is SaloneSatellite, which is the meeting and showing place for world young designers. And I will place my focus in Fuori Salone, which is less business-oriented and more innovative. Here I list some must-go areas which I will fit in my schedule.

MUST-GO AREAs

  • Zona Tortona

It is the area that everyone associates with Design Week. The area offers an interesting mix of notables, new thinking to excite you. It is guaranteed to be of high quality, for the he founding partners are those renowned names in the world of design – Giulio Cappellini, Paola Navone and Marcel Wanders.

  • Ventura Lambrate

Located in the northeast of the city, Lambrate is where you’ll find the younger/hipster crowd milling around, soaking up the new talents on display.

  • Brera Design District

This area proudly boasts the highest density of spaces devoted to contemporary design, art and culture in Milan. If you are someone who wants to delve into what has been described as ‘the real essence’ of FuoriSalone, then wind your way to Brera and prepare to be immersed in an experience steeped in contemporary attitudes, resting on the shoulders of the greats.

So, are you ready to go with me?!
