Yesterday, we did a study research in Angered, one of the superb areas in Gothenburg City. It is located in the northeast and is the home area of one in five people in Gothenburg. With an area of a young workforce and land available for new companies, it is definitely a promising place!
The area is still under construction right now, so it looks a little bit messy. We mainly visited the Blå Stället, (blue house) which is the culture house of Angered. It aims to provide this area a platform for communication, at the same time creating a meeting point for different peoples to share culture with. I was amazed to see so many activities happening there, so alive! I also talked with some people there, they are really nice and open. This is the place I will definitely visit again!
However, there are some problems to be solved in Angered. And the Blå Stället, together with a development project held by European Union is devoted to make changes here. The Blå Stället keeps the belief that it is culture that connects the area together and makes it an entity. By touching different fields like arts, design, economy, business, social networking, information, ecology etc. they are trying to bring in new ideas and liveliness to promote integration in this area, thus building a fairly sustainable framework, to help solve problems like racial segregation, prejudice towards this “immigrant” area from social medias, and thoughts of treating this place just as a temporary sleeping place.
For me, I would really want to do something for them! Maybe add some personalities to this area, since this is a mingled area in which over 100 languages are spoken and with a global network of contact. I am already excited and expected to see how, this time, our designers react and change the situation.
If you have some smart ideas please feel free to leave comments! And don’t forget to pay a visit to Blå Stället!
