Learning about HR…at a pub?!

Throughout my HR master’s program, a classmate of mine shared this great tip on how to gain more hands on HR experience while still in school. Its an organization called “Sveriges HR Förening” and offers students FREE membership in Sweden’s HR Association – the organization for you who see employees as its most important resource.

Sweden’s HR Association is a nonprofit professional association for all who have an interest in HR / Human Resources. The association has about 5,800 members, and we offer you a handy link to the personnel area during your study. As a student, you get the possibility of a natural way come in contact with professionals and other students by including networking and seminars.

“WIFM” – What’s in it for me?

All members of the Student HR organization will get:

– Invitation to free seminars.
– Student Discounts on association events.
– Newsletter with current HR news every Friday to your email address.
– Current HR reports in PDF format a couple of times a year.
– Subscription to the magazine Personnel & Management.
– Access to HR Society’s article database with over 6500 articles in HR.

I just received this free newsletter and get to practice my reading skills while gaining useful tips about current topics within the HR field. I will also be putting my Swedish speaking skills to the test next week at this years first HR PUB!

HR PUB, what’s that?!

The purpose of every HR Pub is that there is an inspiring person who can contribute ideas and expertise to us so we can carry this back to our respective businesses. We also meet to socialize, discuss and create educational meetings with colleagues working in HR. In the pub we will bid on delicious finger food. You are welcome to bring your HR colleagues at every opportunity, whether they are members of the Swedish HR Association or not. No registration required. This ones topic will be presented by Thomas Jordan and the theme is “Strategies for managing workplace conflict: an overview”!
