The first autumn month is close to the end. The weather became rainy, windy and the first cold come to the city. However, even the weather is unpleasant, there is no reason for the bad mood. Autumn is fool of different exiting events in Gothenburg that happened “indoors”. And one of them has already started today – is the famous Gothenburg Book Fair.
Probably, you have already noticed that Korsvägen and other areas around Svenska Mässan is full of bright flags and advertising about Book Fair. And the event really deserves that attention. The first book fair in Gothenburg were in 1985, and nowadays it became the biggest book fair in Scandinavia and the second largest in the whole Europe (after Frankfurt book fair).
This year it will be a lot of outstanding people visiting Gothenburg. One of them the Nobel Prize winner in Literature 2011, Tomas Tranströmer will be the guest of honor at Göteborg Book Fair. Today among many other events, the Swedish poet will be attending a seminar.
Another interesting event will be a rally for imprisoned journalists, where Swedish journalists Johan Persson and Martin Schibbye (who were released from Ethiopian prison just eleven days ago) will participate. And the freedom of speech will be one of the major focuses on the Book Fair.
One of the quests will be great Norwegian writer Erlend Loe. He will be holded a seminar at Saturday in English. His first book “Naïve.Super!” made me feels really inspired. His gentle sense of humor and intelligence are made his books bestsellers almost all over the world.
It will be also a few new writers that most likely will be famous very soon. One of a relatively new names that have been warmly recommended to me by my course mate is Peter Fröberg Idling. He will promote his new book “Sång till den storm som ska komma”. His books have been already translated into 7 languages, which sounds very promising.
Gothenburg Book Fair was started today and, as you see, city will be full of extraordinary people and events. I am sure there you will forget about what weather is outside 😉
