Sweden has a new princess

Today Gothenburg is full of sun, warmth and flags! Sweden celebrates birth of new princess, daughter of Prince Daniel and Princess Victoria. Hmh..sounds like a sentence from a fairy tale, isn’t it?

Anyway, tomorrow will be some salutes fired in Gothenburg, to celebrate the birth of new Royal family member.

Visit to Feskekörka

If you like seafood, Feskekörka in Gothenburg is a place you definitely have to visit. First, the location is absolutely brilliant looking like a church. Second, probably this is the only place in Gothenburg where you can find the best choice of fish and sea delicacies that are, by the way, amazingly fresh. Finally, if you do not feel like cooking, you may have lunch in a number of nice cafés in Feskekörka. I could definitely recommend hot sandwich with shrimps and marinated salmon.

App development competition for the swedish helth care system

Those of you with developing skills can apply to this contest organised by Vitalis in collaboration with Vinnova. It is a competition in app development that should reduce the lack of recources of health care and promote the development of more effective care and social services.
So first of all create a team 2 to 4 ppl max, apply before 15th March with short description on why you wnat to participate and then they will contact you on the 21st if you will continue further…after that…go here Vitalis and VINNOVA app development competition and see what happens.

Large job fair at Svenska Mässan: Feb 21-22

Just found out about this job fair happening today and tomorrow at Svenska Mässan here in Gothenburg.Over 50 employers from several different sectors will take part in the fair.

The job fair is organized by the Public Employment Office, Business Region Göteborg, GR, LO, the County Board (Länsstyrelsen) and Region Västra Götaland.

So don’t miss out and visit it!

Seminar in Scrum-software development process-Wednesday 22nd Feb. 13-15

Interesting for all students studying within IT, software development and management!

The student computer club SKIP at the IT faculty organizes a seminar in Scrim held by a certified Scrum master. This is a great chance to get insights of Scrum development process and learn something new!

A brief Scrum history: In 1986, Hirotaka Takeuchi and Ikujiro Nonaka described a new tactic that would increase speed and flexibility at the cost of design and quality, based on case studies from manufacturing firms in the automotive, photocopier, restaurants food and printer manufacturers. They called this the holistic or rugby approach, as the whole process is performed by one cross-functional group across multiple overlapping phases, where the group “tries to go the distance as a unit, passing the ball back and forth”.

The seminar will take place this Wednesday(22nd of February) at the campus Lindholmen, Patricia building, floor 4, rum Torg Grön. Between 13 to 15 pm.

During this semester many of my classmates are doing their internships, some of them are abroad. For me, as probably for many students, internship is the most existing part of studies, so I it’s always interesting to know about your “colleagues’” experience.

In the blog The Europe Correspondents you can follow students of the European Studies programme and the Master Programme in European Studies doing internships and/or exchange studies all over Europe/the world.

Master Thesis, Part II

Master Thesis writing is a kind of very special time in your studies. On the one hand, you have four months to finish a paper that comprises out of 60 pages. That is definitely not much, especially considering the fact that you’ve a partner. On the other hand, it involves really much reading and discussion on almost all, even minor points. And that takes time, more than you can ever imagine.

Moreover, as you’re getting more knowledge on the topic of your interest, you may decide that it is not really what you want to do for the next couple of months. So, you need to change it, as we’ve done with my partner recently, switching from Swedish TNCs in India to EURO 2012 and its impacts on Poland and Ukraine. What a nice transition?

Swedish semla

This Tuesday is known in Sweden as Fat Tuesday. It’s a day when you definitely have to try semla. Originally, semla was the last festive food before Lent. However, right now it has become a traditional dessert every Tuesday between Fat Tuesday and Easter.

You could buy semla in almost every shop, or, if you’re brave enough or either good in cooking, here is a recipe to make semlor yourself:

The IT university youtube cannel

I just wanted to let you know that a while ago I created a youtube channel for the IT university here in Gothenburg.

There I upload lectures that we have at the university, some interesting talks and news.

For now I have uploaded two talks, one of Joe Armstrong inventor of the programing language Erlang and Nikolae Paladi former students at the Software engineering program currently working in a company called Klarna.
