Spökvandring – Ghost Walk in Gothenburg

If you know some Swedish language, or some nice Swedish people, which could translate for you, you can have a great late-evening walk with the ghosts in the old part of Gothenburg.

We met six different “ghosts” of people, including famous Gustav Adolf, which were telling us funny, and sometimes scary stories about the live in Gothenburg many years ago.

17 May in Sweden

May in Sweden full of public holidays, so we have another long weekend.Today is Ascension Day, which is celebrated on Thursday during the 6 week after Easter. As you may already know, the religious aspect of the holiday is not the main for Swedes.

To celebrate the Ascension people get up around 3-4 a.m. and meet in the forest to hear the birds singing during the sunrise. These excursions are named as “early cuckoo morning”, as now is the particular time then you can hear the cuckoo. If cuckoo comes for the West – it’s a very good sign, the North and South are not that good :) . After the sunrise the groups might have a picnic, play some music and sing. What is more it is traditionally the unofficial opening of the fishing season and the Temperance Day in Sweden. Also neighboring Norway is celebrating its National Day.

Spring Semester 2012

Today I want to promote a little bit my current course at the uni, as it is absolutely great! For the second period of Spring semester I have chosen “Methods on Conflict Resolution and Case Studies”, and I didn’t regret of that even for a second.

Our main teacher is the UN Fellow at the Peacekeeping Training Programme of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) where he is developing courses in Conflict Analysis for peace operations personnel. Other teachers also very interesting and rather famous in their fields: Jørgen Johansen is a freelance lecturer in conflict studies, a nonviolent trainer, and activist with experiences of 100+ countries in the last 40 years, also Stellan Vinthagen, which is taking part in organization of Gaza Flotilla Raid (an extremely interesting initiative, to read more:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza_flotilla_raid), and some other great teachers.

so, if you have possibility to choose this subject for the next semester – do it! absolutely worth it!

The Gothenburg Botanical Garden

There are many places and things to do in Gothenburg. Than the spring comes it is nice to spend time outside. The Gothenburg Botanical Garden is a perfect place to enjoy nature and warmth  of spring. This Botanical Garden one of the biggest in Europe, and probably one of the most beautiful. For more information visit: www.gotbot.se
